New room concepts for the school

Social change is also leaving its mark on schools. These are moving away from frontal teaching in conventional classrooms and developing more into a kind of learning center in which group work and team teaching play an increasing role. This requires a corresponding architecture.

Multifunctional use of space, meeting zones and space for group work are important requirements for room design. Color and material choices play a major role in creating an inspiring atmosphere in which students increasingly become designers of instruction. Large open spaces and play areas, appreciative principles of order and a basic sense of well-being characterize everyday life - and provide the framework in which students can develop optimally. A good example of this is the Embelgasse vocational school in Vienna.

A spacious, two-story foyer gives students direct access to the classrooms, which begin on the 2nd floor. Air, light and greenery of the courtyard garden enter the building. The classes are kept transparent to the communication area - a learning, working and group area with modern seating made of durable and adaptable materials has been created.
